Matt is a family lawyer in Virginia who is committed to providing high-quality representation to families in Northern and Central Virginia. He is a Virginia native who enjoys participating in recreational activities and sports such as CrossFit, canoeing, kayaking, tennis, and triathlons. In his downtime, you can find Matt enjoying the company of his family and friends.
Matt’s legal career began back in 1998 when he was a legal services specialist in the U.S. Marine Corps. He later began working as an attorney in Fredericksburg, Virginia, before becoming a founding partner of Kurylo Gold & Josey, where he also served as a managing partner. He is a founder of Select Law Partners, PLC, and is committed to serving clients throughout the Commonwealth in a wide variety of family and criminal defense cases.
As a native of Dumfries, Virginia, Matt spent most of his childhood in the Dumfries/Woodbridge area. When he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, he explored other parts of the region, working with the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and in Quantico, Virginia. He received his B.S. from Campbell University and his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law.
Given his experience and background in family law cases, Matt primarily focuses on issues pertaining to divorce, military divorce, child custody, child support, and property division. Yet his legal background also allows him to provide experienced representation to clients for a variety of criminal defense and estate planning issues, including drafting wills and trust and creating powers of attorney. In addition, Matt has experience representing clients in business and nonprofit formation, including assisting with the establishment of limited liability companies (LLCs) and corporations.
Matt is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Virginia and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of Virginia.
In terms of serving his community and the legal profession, Matt is also an active member of the Virginia State Bar, the American Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association, the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the Virginia State Bar Sections on Family Law, Military Law, and Trusts and Estates. Matt was named a Rising Star in SuperLawyers in 2015. Locally, Matt is active with Friends of the Rappahannock and the Fredericksburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
